Led by Dr Zacharia Nchinda, the Milwaukee Area Technical College Ghana study abroad program, offered during the Winterim(January  2020), includes some major highlights. To get a better experience of Ghana, the students are paired with host families throughout their stay. The program is composed of some key elements.

1. Visit to Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum to pay homage to the first president and W.E.B. Du Bois Center to pay respect to a great African American civil rights voice.
2. Visit to Aburi Botanical Gardens and Kakum National Park (take the Canopy Walk) to reflect on the importance of conservation.
3.  Visit to a cocoa factory in Tema, Aburi woodcarving village, Artists Alliance Art Galary, jewelry stores, and art markets to appreciate and buy local art works.  
4. Attend four lectures by professors from the University of Ghana, Accra on diverse topics such as Overview of Ghana’s Political Economy, the Challenges Facing Ghanaian Youths, the role of Ghanaian Women in National Development, and the Significance of Ghanaian Festivals.
5. Visit to Elmina Castle and Cape Coast Castle to reflect on the ills of slavery and the hope for a better tomorrow.
6. Visit to the Manyhia Palace and Prempeh 11 Jubilee Museum in Kumasi to reflect on the lasting impact of colonial rule in Africa.
7. Visit to the production villages of Kente and Adinkra to learn and appreciate traditional African cloth making techniques.
8. Visit to Kumasi central market, one of Africa’s largest, to understand and value the daily hustle of buying and selling.
9. Performance of community service to give back to the community.
10. Visit to La Pleasure Beach, Anomabo Beach Resort, and boat ride on Volta Lake all aimed at calming down and reflecting.
11. Visit to the University of Accra and/or Cape Coast University and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to remind ourselves that our goal is studying.
