Alyssa first visited our Club on March 4, 2018 and indicated then she would be willing to speak to us about her Peace Corps service in Kyrgyzstan, which is a Cental Asian country bordering China on the East. Kyrgyzstan, a former part of the Soviet Union, was formed as an independent state in 1991 after the collapse of the USSR.

Toni K. Rivera obtained her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Community Education from the University of WI-Milwaukee and completed her Master’s of Science in Business Management in 2007 from Cardinal Stritch University. Ms. Rivera has over twenty-four years of non-profit management and executive experience and expertise working with underserved populations, at-risk children and families and advocating for social justice and self- sufficiency across non-profit sectors.  As a Latina, Ms. Rivera is bilingual in Spanish and English. Specific expertise includes program and community development, grant writing experience and community partnership/relationship development. Ms. Rivera spent nearly 10 years at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin managing nationally recognized violence prevention and intervention program, Project Ujima. Additionally, Ms. Rivera is a founding member of the National Network of Hospital-based Violence Intervention Programs (NNHVIP) started in 2009. Currently, Ms. Rivera is serving as the President and Chief Executive Director at Centro Hispano Milwaukee (Council for the Spanish Speaking, Inc.) advocating for the Latino population through dual language early childhood education including early head start and head start programs, elderly housing, adult education, immigration and community services. In this role, Ms. Rivera provides the vision and oversight of the programs and services offered through Centro Hispano Milwaukee and is a content expert on community issues of poverty, immigration, education, community violence and trauma. Ms. Rivera lives in Milwaukee and is married with two beautiful daughters.

Pastor Danny Thomas is the Founder of  Water for the World NLA, a humanitarian cause that fights the world crisis of having drinkable water. Annually Water for the World NLA builds production centers using Bio Sand Filtration, pace age technology with the water project suitcase and desalination systems.
